Yamamoto began his career studying oil painting but his medium of choice currently is photography. 'He blurs the border between painting and photography however, by experimenting with his printing surfaces.' In seeing his images online and reading about him I had no idea what his printing technique was. But after viewing his work in person I saw that he was using silver gelatin prints as his base and then he adds dyes, tea toner, paints on, and tears his photographs.
I find these image very compelling in their simplicity. They seem to stir emotion and memories even after I have left the gallery. I believe the softness lends them to feel like something I have see before because it is more of an impression of something not the specific details of it.
